Wine Tips for Brides & Grooms
Wedding bells are ringing, wine glasses are clinking! Are you looking for a unique gift registry for your wedding? Register for your favorite wines, and watch your wine cellar grow. Portland based Lux Wines (www.lux-wines.com) offers a bridal gift registry and will walk you through the whole process. Here are some tips for incorporating special wines into your special day.
Tip #1 – Keep an Open Palate
Don’t rule out a certain varietal because you have had it once and didn’t like it. The same grape can taste very different depending on the winemaker and depending upon the winemaking style used in the region. For example, would you swear that you don’t like chardonnay? Try a chardonnay that has been aged in stainless steel instead of oak. Also, try buying several bottles of the same varietal from different parts of the world. A California Fume Blanc will taste quite different than a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. An Oregon Pinot Noir will have different qualities than a French Burgundy.
Tip #2 – Do Your Homework
Not sure what your wine palate is? Have a wine tasting party. Read tasting notes about wines that sound interesting and buy some bottles to sample. Take some notes about what you do and don’t like about the wines and then let the experts help you select other wines that suit your tastes.
Tip #3 – Have a Wine Themed Bridal Shower
Several years ago I wanted to host a bridal shower for my best friend. I looked at all of the traditional shower themes and decided that I really wanted to do something unique. My friend would receive enough glassware and kitchen towels without my help. So, I asked all of the guests to bring a bottle of their favorite wine. By the wedding date, not only did the bride & groom have a nicely stocked wine cellar, but every bottle of wine held a special memory. It was such a success that we decided to create the Lux Wines Bridal Gift Registry!
Tip #4 – Select a Broad Price Range for Your Registry
You will find that there are many wines that are a great quality for a great price. Register for some of these great value wines that you will be happy to open anytime. Then select some wines that you will save for special occasions. Your guests will appreciate having many options to select from.
Tip #5 – Choose Wines from Different Vintages
Register for some wines that you will be able to enjoy right away. Make sure to also select some wines that you will be able to cellar for several years. At Lux Wines we will help you customize your registry so that you will have a great wine to open up on each of your first ten anniversaries (you have to provide the will power).
Tip #6 – Thank Your Bridal Party with Gifts of Wine
Give each member of your bridal party a wine that is hand-picked to suit their individual palate. If you are not sure what that palate is, we can help you figure it out! This will give them a great memory of being a part of your special day.
Last tip – Have fun! There are no right or wrong answers with wine. Choose the wines you like and enjoy them for years to come.

Australian wine
A 2003 report by archaeologists indicates a possibility that grapes were used together with rice to produce mixed fermented beverages in China as early as 7000 BC. Pottery jars from the Neolithic site of Jiahu, Henan were found to contain traces of tartaric acid and other organic compounds commonly found in wine. However, other fruits indigenous to the region, such as hawthorn, could not be ruled out. If these beverages, which seem to be the precursors of rice wine, included grapes rather than other fruits, these grapes were of any of the several dozen indigenous wild species of grape in China, rather than from Vitis vinifera, which were introduced into China some 6000 years later.
